4 New YSA stakes created in Phoenix, AZ

Following the pattern in Utah, Idaho and recently Virginia, the church is converting it's university stakes to Young Single Adult Stakes (YSA).  Four were created in the Phoenix - Mesa area this week

http://ldschurchgrowth.blogspot.com/

27. Gilbert Arizona YSA - June 9th, 2012
28. Mesa Arizona YSA East - June 9th, 2012
29. Mesa Arizona YSA West - June 9th, 2012
30. Phoenix Arizona YSA - June 9th, 2012

There are now 95 stakes in Arizona and 1,501 in the US.  There are 2,976 worldwide but still 50.4% are in the US. 19 of the 30 stakes created this year are outside of the US and surprisingly only one stake this year is in Utah.

The Church is on track to create 65 stakes this year or 1.3 per week. That translates to completing 5 or 6 wards and branches a week and probably 2 or 3 buildings a week. The Church has not created more than 50 stakes a year since 1996.

The Church membership doubles about every 18 years, or in less than a single generation and has done so since it's first year after being restored in 1830.

Manaus Brazil Temple dedicated and open

President Dieter F. Uchtdorf dedicated Brazil's 6th temple and the 138th worldwide on 10 June 2012.

The other 5 temples are hundreds an hundreds of miles away in the south-east portion of Brazil.

"Church leaders determined to construct the temple after years of sacrifice by Latter-day Saints in the Amazon River Basin to reach the temple.

For almost 20 years, Church members from Manaus, a city isolated by major rivers and rainforests, have been traveling by caravan to attend the temple in Sao Paulo, Brazil — a 15-day round trip journey by boat and bus — and then Caracus, Venezuela — an eight-day journey by bus."

Brazil's 7th temple in Fortaleza, Brazil is still under construction.

3 more new Stakes - Mexico, Venezuela, Texas

The LDS church has now created 26 stakes in 21 weeks in 2012.

The Ciudad del Carmen México is coastal in the southern Yucatan Peninsula on the eastern side of Mexico.  This is the 4th stake created in Mexico this year and there are now 226 stakes in Mexico (Brazil has 244) This stake is closest to the Villahermosa, Tabasco, Mexico temple, dedicated in 2000.  There are 12 operating temples in Mexico and one more under construction. (There are 13 operating temples in Utah + 3 under construction)

The Porlamar Venezuela stake is also coastal in the northern part of Venezuela. This is the first new stake in Venezuela in 2012 (4 last year) and there are now 34 stakes there.  By comparison, Ecuador has 34 stakes, England 37 and Australia 32.  Venezuela just has the one temple in Caracas, dedicated in 2000.

The Summerwood Texas Stake is a suburb of Houston. This is the second new stake in Texas in 2012 and there are now 58 stakes there. There are 4 temples in Texas including nearby Houston.

All three new stakes this week were near the Gulf of Mexico. Coincidence, I think Not !

There are now 2,972 stakes worldwide, with 1,497 in the US and 1,475 outside. The average number of new stakes over the past five years is 37. At this pace, the 3,000 Stake might be created this November.

India's First Stake, & New Caledonia's First Stake

The LDS Church not only created 2 more stakes, but both were the first stakes in those locations

There are just over 10,000 Latter-day Saints in what is now one stake and six districts of the Church in India. There are two missions, the India Bangalore Mission and the India New Delhi Mission.

The new stake will be in the Hong Kong China Temple district

The population in India is estimated at 1.22 Billion or 17% of the World's population

India is the 79th Nation to have an LDS stake and the 7th new country since Jan 2010

www.ldschurchnews.com/First-stake-in-India

There are just over 2,000 Latter-day Saints in what is now one stake with 5 wards and 3 branches. The islands in the South Pacific that make up New Caledonia are approximately 1/2 between Brisbane Australia and the Fiji islands.  New Caledonia is in the Fiji Suva Mission and actually is a part of France (11 time zones away).

The new stake will be in the Suva Fiji Temple district

The population in  New Caledonia is estimated at 225 Thousand, so 0.9% of their population is already LDS.

New Caledonia is the 80th Nation or territory to have an LDS stake and the 8th new country since Jan 2010

Kansas City Missouri Temple dedicated

In an area of the United States hallowed by the sacrifices of Latter-day Saints in the late 1830s, President Thomas S. Monson dedicated the Kansas City Missouri Temple on May 6, the Church’s 137th operating temple.

ldschurchnews.com/Kansas-City-Missouri-Temple-dedicated-by-President-Thomas-S-Monson

ldschurchnews.com/Western-Missouri-a-scene-of-momentous-Church-history

Along with the St. Louis, Temple, there are no two temples in Missouri (and 14 Stakes)

While the Church did not mention the Missouri extermination order that legalized killing Mormons in Missouri (from 1838 to 1980) before the Civil War and the 14th Amendment superseded states rights to discriminate, the Governor of Missouri declared this "a time of healing"  There are 67,000 members in Missouri, the most in any mid-western state.
